PSLS Added to Geospatial Coordinating Board_SB 771

As reported from the Veterans Affairs Committee today: An amendment to SB 771 has added PSLS as a voting member of the State Geospatial Coordinating Board, but no amendment was added to HB 1285 today. At this point, it is unclear if the Governor has accepted the change, but when that happens, it will be added to the House bill also. Read SB 771.

Many thanks to the PSLS Geospatial Committee and members who contacted legislators to help make this possible!

Note from the PSLS Geospatial Committee Chair Mike Kreiger: For several years PSLS has been working with a coalition to pass legislation to create this board which will reduce redundant efforts and result in better collaboration and cost savings to state agencies and ultimately benefits the residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

PSLS has also been interacting with this coalition and others to clear up a gray area as it relates to geospatial activities. In Pennsylvania some geospatial activities are regulated and fall under the jurisdiction of the Professional Land Surveyor, but there have been numerous incidents of these activities being performed by unlicensed individuals which can put life, health or property, or the public welfare at risk.

Our voices are now being heard thanks to the efforts of our members!
