In Memory of Harry Schoenagel

Harry Floyd Schoenagel, 80, of Greentown, Pa., passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He had a summer home in Newport.

His service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church in Greentown, Pa.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1935, to the late Fred C. Schoenagel and Letha Schoenagel. He was a lifelong resident of Greentown, Pa., with a second home in Newport. He graduated from Penn State University. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy retiring as a lieutenant commander in the reserves.

He and his brother opened a surveying and engineering company, which they ran for 35 years, and now it continues under his son. He was a member of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, the Wallenpaupack Area School Board, the Pike County Republican Committee and the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. He served as treasurer and later as president of the Newfoundland Rotary Club. He also belonged to the Salem Masonic Lodge No. 330. He was appointed by the governor to the Pennsylvania Registration Board for Engineers, Surveyors and Geologists and was secretary of the Pike County General Authority. He was on the board of directors of LA Bank, which is now NBT Bank. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a founding member of the Crippled Bear Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret “Peggy Whitehurst Schoenagel; two sons, James and wife Karen, and William and wife Michele; two granddaughters, Kaitlynn and Jenna; brother, Fred C. Schoenagel Jr. and wife Jeannie; and several nieces and nephews.
