Mobile-Friendly PAMS Aids Surveying Community

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Photogrammetry & Surveys Section recently released a new publicly accessible, mobile-friendly web version of its Photogrammetry Job Tracking and Asset Management System (PAMS) web application. Through the mobile-friendly PAMS (http://www.penndotpams.org), surveyors can use web-enabled smart phones and tablets to quickly look up and view map locations of permanent geodetic monuments installed and documented by PennDOT, the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Geodetic Survey (NGS).

“We have always promoted unrestricted access to public records as our objective with PAMS,” said Bradley Foltz, PLS, CP, Chief of the Photogrammetry & Surveys Section. “PAMS has been embraced by the private sector surveying and engineering communities who routinely use the website to research geodetic monuments and aerial photography flight lines.”

This mobile-friendly version of PAMS will greatly enhance accessibility while surveyors are in the field. PennDOT’s vision is to partner with the surveying community to confirm the existence of geodetic monuments they visit and to document monument conditions. This collaborative partnership can help maintain critical survey infrastructure for future public/private photogrammetry and surveying projects.

geographIT®, a division of EBA Engineering, Inc., developed and hosts PAMS for PennDOT’s Photogrammetry & Surveys Section. The original system, developed and deployed into production in early 2000, has been continually enhanced and upgraded to adapt to the latest open source technology components.
