    GPS Observations on Bench Marks Webinar

    3:00 – 4:00 pm ET


    NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey encourages anyone with survey-grade Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers or GPS-enabled phones and hand held devices to help collect GPS on Bench Marks.  This webinar will provide guidance to collect GPS observations at any time, including during National Surveyors Week (March 15–21, 2015). Joining the 2015 effort will help raise awareness about professional surveying while improving the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS).

    This webinar will cover the following topics:

    • Perform desktop reconnaissance for finding bench marks in the field using NGS Data Explorer - Brian Ward, Arkansas Geodetic State Advisor
    • An overview of the new GPS on Bench Marks web page and how to use the ArcGIS Maps Package or the ArcGIS Online Web Map to investigate bench marks in your area and perform analysis - Brian Shaw, NGS
    • How to submit data to OPUS-Share and looking up what has been submitted in the past - Joe Evjen, NGS Branch Chief
    • Using DSWorld for reconnaissance and submitting a mark recovery using DSWorld - Malcolm Archer-Shee, NOAA Contractor

    The webinar will be recorded and posted within 1 week.

    The Westmoreland Conservation District’s 2015 Engineers’ Workshop is just around the corner. New this year is our co-sponsor, the Allegheny County Conservation District. Learn about how the two districts are working together to make stormwater improvements in local watersheds.
    The Keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Robert Traver, Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University and Director of both the Center for the Advancement of Sustainability in Engineering and the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership. Dr. Traver will present what he has learned about monitoring stormwater control measures.

    It is with great remorse to bring you the sad news that J. Frederick Friden, PE, PLS passed away Monday, December 15th.  He was a member of the Northeast Chapter since 1984.  Fred held many positions during his tenure, including terms on State Board of Directors representing the Northeast Chapter, member of the PR Committee, Education Committee, Trustee and Treasurer of the PLS Foundation, multiple Chapter offices, and Conference presenter.  Fred will be sadly missed by all.  Further details are not available at this time and will be provided as soon as they are made public. Thank you for your kind thoughts and respect to the family.
