Recently there was an article published in the Reading Eagle describing a burglary scam in which the victim was distracted by a person discussing the property and pin points. Click here for the entire article.

PSLS President Adam Crews recommends that all field crews carry proper personal and employment identification. He also suggested that field personnel have clothing and vehicles clearly bearing the name of their company. Having clear marks of identity may help homeowners feel more secure in dealing with strangers. As Crews pointed out, it is free walking and driving advertising.

28th Consecutive Annual Surveyor’s Shoot Held at the Ernest E. Heller Memorial Range on June 15, 2014

Participating on a beautiful, sunny Father’s Day in a peaceful sylvan setting were four Johnsons – Glenn, Thom, Cody and Carol;  two Fridens – Fred and Phil; one Heller - Bill; and dear Audrey. All of the Stranskys were tied up elsewhere – Mark in Del. at their newly acquired vacation home, Brent at NYU working on his MBA, and Gord
in New Jersey with wife honoring her father. Grabo was called away at the last moment to Philadelphia. Those of us who showed had an unhurried shoot, grub by Bill, scoring help and littoral support by Audrey.

Scoring as follows; 25 yd. Pistol – Thom, Fred, Cody (this was the only event Fred actually participated in. It was the last relay and caused Audrey to drop to 4th, what a cad).; 50 yd. Rifle – Thom, Cody and AUDREY shooting Thom’s M-4 lookalike; Groundhog – Thom, Cody, Bill; Turkey – Cody, Thom, Bill; 25 yd. .22 Rifle – Cody, Thom, PHIL;  X Target – Thom (about 1/8 inch from dead center), Bill. Now to the Trap Match. It was an all Johnson extravaganza – Thom 1st with 8 of 10, Cody and Glenn tied
with five had a shoot-off which ended with a double where Cody got one and Glenn missed both. He claimed he couldn’t find the other trigger on his coach gun. There are only two, one behind the other.; Bill got three and Phil two. The old fundefinedt tried twice and failed.

Restful and yummy. Burgers, dogs, beans, potatoe (it’s an alternate spelling) salad, chips fixins and a special Father’s Day cake supplied by Audrey. Good friends, good time.

The old and creaky Range Master

A land surveyor’s school being sponsored by the Virginia Association of Surveyors. VAS is holding its 8th Annual John Foster School in Richmond in early August at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The school is setup as two separate classes run over a four day span. One class is geared towards persons studying for their Land Surveyor in Training Exam and the other class for persons studying for the Professional Surveyor Exam. Both classes have considerable NCEES course material which would be of benefit to surveyors from other states. There is also Virginia state specific material for surveyors looking to get their license in Virginia.
