HARRISBURG -- Governor Tom Corbett today announced that the Department of Environmental Protection has awarded $1.65 million in Mine Map Grants to seven recipients, including six of the state’s universities.

“These grants create an important partnership with higher education, develop a skilled workforce for the energy sector, and continue to ensure a safe working environment for Pennsylvania’s miners,” Corbett said.

Summertime Greetings from Surveyors Historical Society,

We invite you and urge you to attend Surveyors Rendezvous 2013 at historic Philadelphia this August. It's a remarkable event, featuring three historic dedication ceremonies. We'll "Set the Real Stargazer's Stone" on Thursday August 29, then dedicate a roadside historical marker at South Street in Philadelphia (Mason & Dixon's 'POB') on Friday August 30, and finally give Charles Mason an authentic 1766 Mason-Dixon Stone as a cemetery memorial on Saturday afternoon, August 31.

The purpose of this message is Hotel Rooms. Our "room block" in Philadelphia is filling up rapidly. That means the number of rooms available at our discount group rate is dwindling fast. We already ran out of rooms twice for one night, Wednesday August 28, and had to increase our block, but we can't add more. If you're planning on, or even thinking about, coming to Philadelphia for Rendezvous 2013, you should reserve your hotel room now. When they're gone, they're gone.

The best and easiest way is to call Hyatt's reservation "Hotline" number, 888-421-1442, and mention Surveyors Historical Society to obtain our group rate. It only takes a minute, and your card won't be charged until you check-out in August. Hyatt also has an on-line reservation "PassKey" system, https://PassKey.com/go/SurveyorsHist, but most people are telling us the phone is quicker and simpler.

DEADLINES TO REMEMBER (and they're coming up quick) ---

    'Early-Bird' Registration Cut-off . . . JULY 15, 2013 --- After that date, SHS registration fees go up.

'Group-Rate' Hotel Room Cut-off . . . AUGUST 2, 2013 --- Remaining hotel rooms will be released to the public. SHS group rate no longer obtainable.

Click here for our latest Rendezvous 2013 information brochure. It has some corrections and changes from earlier mailed versions. Most significant change is the large increase in Sponsorship Donors. Our profound thanks to them all. They're the ones making this entire event possible, and we could sure use more like them.

Please join us for Surveyors Rendezvous 2013 at historic Philadelphia this August 28-31, 2013. Our Rendezvous hotel is Hyatt Regency Penn's Landing, 201 South Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia PA 19106. Phone (not for reservations) 215-928-1234.

This Rendezvous is shaping up to be one of the most significant events for our surveying profession in many years. How often do you set a cemetery stone for Charles Mason? (Nobody's done it since 1786.) And the stone we're giving him isn't an ordinary tombstone. It's one of his own Mason-Dixon stones, which for two centuries graced the line itself. You are invited. Rendezvous 2013 offers full PDH educational credits. Please help us spread the word. Many thanks, and we hope to see you there.

    With highest professional regards,

    Surveyors Historical Society

    Greetings from Surveyors Historical Society,

If you're planning to attend Surveyors Rendezvous 2013 at historic Philadelphia this August, you should make your hotel room reservations without delay.

Our Rendezvous hotel, the Hyatt Regency Penn's Landing in Philadelphia, reports that our group-rate “block” of rooms, set aside for Rendezvous attendees, is filling up fast--and that's because of a huge rock concert for 80,000 scheduled on Labor Day weekend; they will not be able to supply any additional rooms beyond our original “block” amount for the final two days of the Rendezvous--Friday and Saturday August 30 and 31. Rooms are still available within our block, set aside for Rendezvous attendees at a substantial discount, but otherwise the hotel is already 90 percent sold-out for those two nights. Other area hotels are also filling rapidly.

This means if you wait much longer to get a hotel room, they will be gone.

Our Rendezvous dates are Wednesday August 28 through Saturday August 31, 2013. You can make room reservations by calling Hyatt's Reservation Hotline, 888-421-1442 and mentioning Surveyors Historical Society, or by going on-line to https://resweb.passkey.com/go/surveyorshist. Our discount group rate is $129 a night. The “block” of rooms for Rendezvous attendees is not huge, and when they're gone, rates go up to $189-$249, if still obtainable. We urge you to make reservations promptly.

    With highest professional regards,
