Course Description:

Drones provide great benefits for land surveyors, but with these new drone benefits comes new problems that land surveyors might be unfamiliar with. Jonathan Rupprecht, Esq. will be presenting two presentations on drones: "Privacy and Airspace Rules" and "Insurance and Liability Considerations". The aim of these presentations is to make land surveyors aware of the issues surrounding drones so surveyors can strive to be profitable, legal, and safe.

Newsweek, Huffpost, Inc., Politico, NPR, Marketwatch, The Independent, and many other sources have cited or quoted Jonathan B. Rupprecht who is a drone lawyer and a FAA-certificated commercial pilot with single-engine, multi-engine, and instrument ratings. He is also a FAA-certificated airplane flight instructor and instrument flight instructor. He currently is a contributor to Forbes.com for Aerospace & Defense.

The American Bar Association has published a legal treatise on unmanned aircraft law that Jonathan co-authored with other drone attorneys called Unmanned Aircraft in the National Airspace: Critical Issues, Technology, and the Law. Jonathan wrote two chapters on administrative law, the FAA rule-making process, the special rule on unmanned aircraft, and a brief history of unmanned aircraft. Jonathan also authored another book called Drones: Their Many Civilian Uses and the U.S. Laws Surrounding Them.

He was first an advisor for one of the amicus briefs for the highly publicized Huerta v. Pirker case. Jonathan worked with John Taylor on the Taylor v. FAA case which in May 2017 resulted in the Federal District Court of Appeals for D.C. striking down the FAA’s registration regulations. He also briefly helped on the Singer v. City of Newton case.

As of 12/31/2015, compared to other law firms, Rupprecht Law, P.A. was ranked 2nd in the United States by the number of Section 333 clients. On August 29, 2016, one of Jonathan’s clients received a night waiver amongst the first batch of waivers granted by the FAA. Since then, Jonathan has been successful in obtaining 90+ waiver approvals for clients.

Jonathan is currently practicing law in South Florida at his firm Rupprecht Law, P.A. (www.jrupprechtlaw.com) where he assists clients with exemptions, waivers, authorizations, FAA enforcement actions, and various other drone related matters.
