“Pipeline Surveyors: Unique Demands Create a Dangerous Skills Gap” describes how pipeline survey work is vastly different from other survey work and why those differences are so important to address. Some pipeline projects have unique federal regulatory requirements. Pipeline owner/operators all have zero-tolerance protocols and high expectations for data collection and recording and all pipeline survey projects have increased safety risks. Surveyors who understand these unique demands become better at their craft and invaluable to pipeline owner/operators.
There seems to be a common misunderstanding in the responsibility of the roles of each project stakeholder. In this course, we will one-call versus private utility location, define subsurface utility engineering, and discuss the importance of the surveyor to the process. We will review utility location techniques and advances in mapping technology. The objective of this presentation is to clarify common misunderstandings in the utility location process.
