PSLS 2018 Surveyor of the Year Awarded to Arthur Swallow, PLS

Arthur Swallow, PLS receives prestigious Surveyor of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors!

Harrisburg, PA  - The Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors is proud to announce that Arthur Swallow, PLS, has been recognized as the 2018 Surveyor of the Year!

Presented at the 2019 Annual Conference in Hershey, PA, the society’s most prestigious award is presented to a surveyor who has displayed exemplary service to the Society, the public, and the profession.

Arthur “Art” A. Swallow was born in a US Army hospital in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia in 1954. For the most part he was raised in Allentown, PA and attended Allentown schools. Because of his father’s employment he transferred and graduated from Quakertown High School in 1973. He elected to take drafting as a major course in high school along with the usual college preparatory courses.

He elected to go right to work instead of attending college. In 1974 he was hired by Hanover Engineering Associates in Bethlehem, PA. Soon after that he would marry the love of his life, Celia. After eleven years with Hanover he took a position with the surveying and engineering firm, Estate Developers and Engineers, where he was able to apply to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for a Land Surveyor’s license in 1988. After that he obtained his Land Surveyor’s license in the State of New Jersey.

In 1990 Art accepted the position of Chief Surveyor for the City of Allentown where he managed three survey crews and handled all of the land surveying matters required in the Public Works Department. An opportunity for a partnership in an engineering firm in Bangor, PA was presented and he managed the company of engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, draftsmen and building designers until the other partner became sick and unable to work anymore.

In April of 1999 Art started his present firm, Arthur A. Swallow Associates, LLC, where he has offered surveying and engineering services to a wide variety of clients in eastern Pennsylvania and the northern part of New Jersey.

Having raised two beautiful, talented and amazing daughters, he now has five grandchildren that call him Grandad. Art has been active in the Boy Scouts, Grace Lutheran Church of Macungie, is a founding member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors and has held every office in the chapter at one time or another. In addition to PSLS, he is also a member of the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors.

The Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, an affiliate of the National Society of Professional Land Surveyors, is a statewide professional organization that supports the practice of land surveying. The Society focuses on providing education, encouraging legislative involvement, enhancing public awareness, and promulgating ethics of the profession.  For information about Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, visit www.psls.org.
