    Land Grant Surveyors


    Land Grant Surveyors is an award-winning company that provides a variety of surveying services for commercial and residential clients in Pennsylvania and Maryland.     To manage construction stakeout crews with little or no direction from a licensed land surveyor.  Supervise, direct, and schedule the survey crews in the duties and requirements of the survey Rod/Instrument person and survey party chief. Person must exhibit expertise with all types of surveys and construction layout procedures. Person must be able to use CADD to produce base maps and layout calculations. Survey project manager reports to President of LGS.  


    Perform various types of land surveys in accordance with applicable field procedures. Organize day-to-day field crew schedules. Confirm with field crews daily work assignments and completion schedules. Confirm all field work is done comprehensively, correctly, and within budget. Communicate with construction superintendents and survey director concerning daily work schedules and scope of services. Perform office calculations including cut sheets, grading and boundary computations. Maintain organized files for all projects. Prepare project cost estimates for construction stakeout projects. Assist in various other field and office duties including:

    • Topographical surveys.
    • Boundary surveys.
    • Route surveys/highway surveys.
    • ALTA/ACSM land title surveys.
    • AS-Built surveys.
    • Legal description writing.
    • Construction billing/invoicing.


    Associates or Bachelors degree in land surveying from an accredited 2 or 4 year technical college or 8 years of relevant experience.


    • 4 years experience as a survey crew leader and at least 5 years experience as Instrument/Rod Person.
    • Must be proficient in CADD.
    • Excellent math skills including geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.
    • Effective verbal communication skills.
    • Proficient grading calculation skills.
    • Proficient organizational skills.


    Must be able to traverse undeveloped tracts of land for the purpose of field data collections.  Ability to physically negotiate all types of land terrain in all types of inclement weather.


    • Proficient visual interpretation of drawings and documents.
    • A good understanding of Boundary Law, surveying, land development, office, and field procedures.
    • Must be able to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines and work schedules.
    • Must be proficient in standard computer programs.
    • Must be able to interpret land development/subdivision plans for the purpose of recognizance and collection of field data.

An employee in this class functions under Surveyor and Regulator in an assigned survey district as a licensed Pennsylvania surveyor and is responsible for coordinating and supervising the day-to-day work of a moderately-sized staff of field and office personnel engaged in activities affecting plans, records, computations, lines, and grades.     Position:              Entry Level Survey Technician

    As a Survey Technician, you will spend time in both the field and office.  Field work will include performing boundary surveys, obtaining field topography and as-built data, and providing construction stakeout.  Office work will include assisting the survey manager and engineering department in processing linework and scan data, drafting existing features plans for design, office calculations for construction stakeout, and preparing as-built plans.  The ideal candidate has a college degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering but this is not a requirement.  A driver’s license is required.
