    Land Surveyor - LSIT

    Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

    • Deed Plotting
    • Preparation and set-up of survey data for field crews
    • Post survey field data analysis
    • Construction Layout Calculations
    • Grade Sheet Computation
    • Topographic/Volume Analysis
    • Construction As-built Surveys and/or Layout Sketches
    • Preparation of Metes & Bounds Descriptions
    • Project Datum Conversion/Transformation
    • Coordination with CAD personnel
    • Assisting Project Surveyor with obtaining necessary data to complete survey
    • Assist in the preparation of scope of services for projects
    • Proven ability to prioritize work of others in order to meet deadlines

     

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant experience and demonstrated expertise using AutoCAD and in the preparation of concept/design documents
    • Certified Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.)
    • Knowledge of field survey operations, engineering and construction industry
    • Ability to meet project deadlines within given budget limits
    • Ability and focus on Quality Control/Quality Assurance
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel
    • Team Player
    • Desire to succeed and excel in a fast-paced work environment
    • Possess excellent organizational and communications skills

    Survey Party Chief

    Technical Requirements:

    The survey party chief must be proficient in all aspects of land surveying during field operations, including proper measures, methods and standards acceptable within the industry and specific to the equipment used. This position will require the supervision of others in the execution of boundary surveys, topographical surveys, control surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, as-built surveys and all aspects of construction staking.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Lead survey crew in executing field surveys accurately and efficiently
    • Supervise survey crew members in proper surveying technique/equipment operations
    • Provide leadership in vehicle, instrument and equipment care and maintenance
    • Develop through and accurate field notes, survey reports and calculations
    • Proactively provide routine communications to supervisors


    Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

    • High school diploma
    • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
    • Seven years survey experience
    • Five years crew chief experience
    • Proficiency with robotic and GPS survey instruments
    • Proficiency using data collection software
    • Must be available to travel and work overtime

    Equipment and Software Preferences:

    • Leica GPS
    • Leica Robotic Total Stations
    • Leica Viva field software
    • Carlson SurvCEsoftware

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Construction staking from surface files

    We are seeking a Staff Surveyor with 4 to 6 years of experience in our Pittsburgh, PA office location. The successful candidate will have well rounded experience in the Oil and Gas sector performing midstream and other Marcellus/Utica Basin related projects as well as traditional topographic, boundary, and utility surveys, construction layout. The candidate will be responsible for collecting field data and information related to the preparation of survey maps and CAD files, processing that information, and drafting when needed. Surveyors will focus on small and large-scale land development projects including but not limited to: commercial, big box, power centers, residential properties, and midstream pipelines and facilities.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Collect field data for preparation of surveys by using surveying equipment and software;
    • Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, and aerial photographs to assess project needs and assist in project approach;
    • Assist in recovery of survey control and monumentation, construction layout, obtaining invert and subsurface utility information, and photo documentation of the project area;
    • Apply knowledge and techniques of surveying and advanced mathematics;
    • Maintain survey equipment and initiate repairs when necessary;
    • Remain current on surveying practices, guidelines, and best practices; attend internal training and external lectures to expand knowledge and skills;
    • Recommend new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed; and,
    • As necessary, assist with office tasks including but not limited to CAD drafting, data download, deed and map research, and filing. 

    Job Requirements:

    • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelors degree preferred; undergraduate-level courses in Survey or related field a plus;
    • 4 to 6 years prior experience in topographic, boundary, and utility surveys and layout;
    • Experience with Leica instruments and data collectors preferred;
    • Familiarity with current local, state and surveying regulations;
    • Proficiency in Carlson, AutoCAD or Civil 3D software a plus;
    • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a team with co-workers and managers;
    • Excellent communication skills;
    • Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing;
    • Availability to travel overnight for select projects; and,
    • Position requires work Monday through Friday with occasional nights and weekends.

    Position: Survey Crew Chief

    Description:

    HB Engineering is seeking an experienced survey crew chief to work out of our Steelton PA office.  Primary duties will be design surveys, boundary surveys and construction stakeout using conventional and GPS surveying equipment.  PennDOT, AutoCAD and Microstation experience is a plus but not required.  This is a full time position with benefit package.
