DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is established in the Bureau of Project Delivery (BOPD), Photogrammetry and Surveys Section to perform, compute, research, train, track, archive, evaluate, and lead geodetic surveys for photogrammetric mapping, high-order survey control and the establishment of high accuracy monumentation, including Continuously Operating Reference States (CORS).  Coordinates project control placement with Section Manager, District Chiefs, and Consultants.  Provides geodetic control information to other Agencies, National Geodetic Survey (NGS), and outside customers.

Determines quantity and ground location of horizontal and vertical control required for geodetic survey projects and photogrammetric analytic triangulation solution.

Performs reconnaissance on existing geodetic control to determine locations required for new horizontal and vertical control.

Seeks property owner's permission to perform field surveys on private property.

Ensures compliance with specifications for field surveys and office computations by checking all calculations.

Inspect, schedule, and perform minor maintenance of all survey equipment. If damage is found immediately report it to Survey Unit manager.

Maintain the Department's geodetic control survey database in Photogrammetry Assets Management System (PAMS), edit and/ or upload all found and newly established survey control points to the database and update Department recovered NGS geodetic survey control through the NGS website.

Search archives for horizontal and vertical control and provide copies of control data to Department personnel, other agencies, and private sector engineering and surveying firms.

Keep informed on new horizontal and vertical North American Datum's by visiting NGS's website and provide technical guidance to the Department and consultants and surveyors on their usage.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Must meet PA Residency requirement
  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - One year of experience as an Engineering Technician; OR three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; OR one year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology
