Call for 2027 Surveyors' Conference Presentations

We are currently planning for the 2027 conference which will be January 10-13, 2027, back at the Hershey Lodge. We are working to create the educational program and are seeking proposals for conference presentations. We are asking that if you are interested in presenting at the conference, please fill out all the required information in the online presentation proposal form. All presentation proposals are due by  March 16, 2026, ahead of the Education Committee's meeting where all submitted proposals will be reviewed.

The PSLS Surveyors’ Conference is an excellent opportunity to share your knowledge on a breadth of topics related to land surveying. Hundreds of attendees come from many different states. The conference lasts for three days, and this past year we had over 50 educational sessions featuring 30 different speakers. To see the range of session topics from this past January, view the 2026 Surveyors’ Conference Agenda.

We hope you consider submitting a proposal to present at the 2027 Surveyors’ Conference! Feel free to submit multiple presentation proposals! If you have any questions, please email the PSLS office at psls@psls.org

Certified Floodplain Surveyor Program Coming Soon to Pennsylvania!

The surveyor is well versed in measurement, property law, history, mathematics and numerable topics related to surveying, mapping and describing real property. A good number of land surveyors know little about FEMA, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the regulations related to these agencies.

This program is designed to enable the surveyor to learn much more than has always been within the discipline of floodplain management, thus filling that gap between land surveying and floodplain management. Attending the full program and passing the exam allows participants to show that they have the particular expertise required to be recognized as a Certified Floodplain Surveyor and an authority in the field. Currently, there are 18 states offering this certification (that's 36% of the country).

A tiny portion of items on FEMA forms require the skills and knowledge of the surveyor. The great majority of the questions deal with items that are seldomly included in surveying education. Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations is the legislative root for all NFIP regulations. You will become well versed in 44 CFR and flood insurance. Upon completion of the course, one should be able to speak knowledgeably about the floodplain regulations and ordinances that affect your clients.

Details on the program and registration are coming soon!
