Call for 2026 PSLS Officer & Committee Chair Openings

We are looking for PSLS members to step into some important PSLS leadership roles. The following positions will need to be filled for the upcoming year (2026). If you are interested in being considered for any of the above roles, please email psls@psls.org with the following by October 6.

PSLS Secretary

The Secretary shall be responsible for all records of the Society, minutes of all official meetings of the Society and the Society Board of Directors; have charge of the use of the corporate seal, be responsible for maintaining the membership roster and for all publications and mailings of Society meeting notices during his/her immediate tenure in office. Records of the society's meetings and actions shall be kept in safe storage for future reference. The functions of the Secretary may be performed by an employee of the Society, within budgetary limits, as approved by the Society Board of Directors.


Below is a summary of the duties of the PSLS Secretary:

  • Participate in quarterly PSLS Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings.

  • PSLS staff will take meeting minutes during Executive Committee and Board meetings, but the Secretary shall conduct roll call and take notes as needed during these meetings. After meetings, PSLS staff will send the draft meeting minutes for the Secretary to review and make any needed edits.

  • Tally any needed votes.

  • All positions on the Executive Committee (including Secretary) must be a liaison to a few PSLS committees so that they can report back during Executive Committee meetings.

  • At times, the PSLS Executive Committee may be sent emails to respond to, and all Executive Committee members are expected to respond in a timely manner.

  • Participate in strategic planning sessions as needed.

  • PSLS staff keeps all records and maintains the membership rosters.


PSLS Education Committee Chair

Below is a description of the PSLS Education Committee from the PSLS Bylaws:

Education Committee

The Committee shall investigate educational opportunities and curricula available to individuals interested in obtaining an education in the surveying profession.  Every effort should be made by the Chairperson to enlist faculty members of educational institutions within the Commonwealth involved with surveying programs to serve on the Committee.


The Committee shall assist in the preparation, organization and review of educational workshops and courses to be offered by the Society and/or Chapters of the Society.


Roles and Responsibilities of the Education Committee Chair

The Chair of the Education Committee provides strategic leadership and ensures the successful execution of the Committee’s mission. Key responsibilities include:

  • Committee Leadership & Meeting Facilitation

    • Organize and lead 8–10 Education Committee meetings per year. Most meetings are virtual, with potentially 1–2 in-person meetings annually, as determined by the Chair. Meeting lengths typically range from 1 to 3 hours.

    • PSLS staff will help with agenda development, meeting logistics, and minute-taking.

  • Budget & Strategic Planning

    • Contribute to the development and oversight of the Education Committee’s annual budget in collaboration with PSLS staff and leadership.

  • Webinar Support

    • Lead the committee in creating an annual schedule for the monthly webinar series and two special virtual seminars. No webinars are scheduled in December and January due to the annual conference.

    • Serve as a backup moderator for the monthly webinars, typically held on the second Wednesday of each month at noon. Also serve as a back-up moderator for the two special seminars as needed.

  • Event Planning and Support

    • Oversee the development of the annual conference session matrix, ensuring a well-rounded and relevant slate of educational offerings.

    • Provide guidance to PSLS staff in planning and making decisions related to the annual Conference and other events.

    • Serve as a signatory on all certificates for PDH credit issued for PSLS-sponsored conferences, webinars, and educational events.

    • Seek out any other training opportunities that could be beneficial to professional land surveyors in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Board Engagement and Reporting

    • Attend quarterly PSLS Board meetings to provide updates on the Committee’s activities. Participation can be in-person or virtual. If unable to attend, the Chair may submit a written report in lieu of attending.


This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape professional education in surveying across Pennsylvania, foster industry collaboration, and support the ongoing development of PSLS members.

 

PSLS Geospatial Committee Chair

The following is included in the PSLS Bylaws:

The Committee shall monitor and report practices, activities and legislation as it pertains to geospatial services relative to the profession of land surveying. Furthermore, the Committee shall promote the education of land surveyors, cartographers, photogrammetrists and those providing geographic and geospatial services.


Below is a summary of the duties of the Geospatial Committee Chair:

  • Lead periodic committee virtual meetings as needed. This includes setting/distributing the agenda and organizing the meetings.

  • Monitor the items listed in the bylaws above.

  • Recruit committee members as needed.

  • Submit a written committee report for the quarterly PSLS Board Meetings or give a verbal report if you attend the meeting.

PSLS Standards of Practice Committee Chair

The following is included in the PSLS Bylaws:

The Standards of Practice Committee shall be responsible for developing or amending suggested standards of practice for all practicing Land Surveyors in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.


Below is a summary of the duties of the Standards of Practice Chair:

  • Lead virtual committee meetings as needed. This includes setting/distributing the agenda and organizing the meetings.

  • Review the latest Standards of Practice document periodically with the committee and make revisions as needed with PSLS Board approval.

  • Recruit committee members as needed.

  • Submit a written committee report for the quarterly PSLS Board Meetings or give a verbal report if you attend the meeting.

PSLS Strategic Planning Committee Chair

Below is a summary of the duties of the Strategic Planning Committee Chair:

  • Periodically review the PSLS strategic plan and update it as needed.

  • Follow up on action items from the strategic plan.

  • Help facilitate/participate in strategic planning sessions as needed with the PSLS Executive Committee. This can be in-person or virtual.

  • Solicit committee members to help with the committee's tasks.

  • Submit a written committee report for the quarterly PSLS Board Meetings or give a verbal report if you attend the meeting.
