Happy Fall, Everyone,

I hope you had a wonderful summer. Everywhere I have spoken with fellow surveyors, the message has been the same. It has been an exceptionally busy season across the Commonwealth for our profession. I hope each of you has the opportunity to take some well-deserved time to relax and enjoy the fall season that is now upon us.

The Laurel Highlands Chapter kicked off the summer with a motorcycle ride through the scenic Laurel Highlands, featuring a covered bridge tour that was enjoyed by all. The beautiful weather made for a memorable event and a great way to begin the season.

Speaking of memorable occasions, we also celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States on July 4, 2026. As surveyors, we can take pride in the work we perform each day, knowing that we follow in the footsteps of many of our nation's founding fathers, several of whom were surveyors themselves. Their contributions helped shape our country, and our profession continues to play an important role in its growth and development.

On the legislative front, Pennsylvania House Bill 513 is now before the Senate and has been referred to the Senate State Government Committee. We appreciate Bob Regola's continued efforts in advancing the bill through the legislative process during the summer months.

The Education Committee continues to finalize the program for the 2027 Conference at the Hershey Lodge, scheduled for January 10-13, 2027. I look forward to seeing many of you there and participating in another outstanding educational and networking opportunity.

Congratulations to the first group of NSPS Certified Floodplain Surveyors who received their examination results in early July. Another examination is scheduled to be administered on September 24, 2026.

In July, a letter was distributed to the chapters regarding chapter bylaws, financial reporting requirements, standards of practice, and other important updates. I encourage everyone to attend chapter meetings, engage in these discussions, and remain involved in the issues affecting both our profession and our society.

I also attended the Membership Committee meeting in July. Membership remains stable, and we continue to explore new ways to attract and retain members. I encourage each of you to stay active within your local chapters and consider volunteering your time and expertise on a committee or other PSLS initiative. Your involvement is essential to the continued strength and success of our organization.
