From frozen ground to the first signs of spring construction, professionals across the Commonwealth continue to define the boundaries of progress. It is an honor to serve as your 2026 President of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors during such an important time for our profession.

For those who may not know me, my name is Troy Leighty, and I am honored to serve as the 2026 President of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. I grew up on a small farm in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. I attended the former Pittsburgh Technical College and Westmoreland County Community College, where I met my wife of 25 years. Together, we are proud parents of our son.

Our Strategic Planning Committee met on February 6, followed by the Public Relations Committee on February 10. Both committees are off to a strong start in 2026, building on the progress made during these February meetings. Additionally, we have continued our conversations with Penn State University regarding the future of its surveying program.

The 2026 Conference concluded in mid-January and was a tremendous success, with continued excellent attendance. I have since met with the Education Committee to review conference evaluations, feedback, and opportunities for improvement as we begin planning for 2027. As is customary, preparations for the 2027 PSLS Surveyors’ Conference are already underway. An in-person planning meeting will be held on March 20, 2026, at the Hershey Lodge to outline and map out the upcoming conference.

As we approach National Surveyors Week (March 15-21, 2026), I encourage our members to take pride in the vital role surveyors play in shaping our communities. From infrastructure development and construction to environmental stewardship and land management, your work ensures accuracy, integrity, and reliability in every project you undertake. The professionalism, expertise, and commitment demonstrated by our members strengthen both our profession and the public’s trust in the services we provide. I hope you’ll take a moment to participate in the PSLS March Madness Challenge in support of the Political Action Committee (PAC) fund, and the PSLS photo contest to help showcase the value of our work during National Surveyors Week.

National Surveyors Week also offers an opportunity to recognize the strong sense of community within our profession. Collaboration, mentorship, and shared knowledge are essential to advancing the practice of surveying and supporting the next generation of professionals. I encourage you to take time this week to reflect on your accomplishments, engage with colleagues, and promote the importance of land surveying within your local communities.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the field of land surveying and to the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. Your commitment and professionalism make a meaningful difference across our Commonwealth each and every day.

Troy A. Leighty, PLS

PSLS President
